Thai cuisine is my favourite cuisine in the world, simply because of one reason - Tom Yam Soup.

(Well, another reason is because Thai dishes tend to be spicy and I love spicy food. Thus it’s not surprising that Indonesian food has a pretty high rank on my favourite list too.)

To me, the best Tom Yam Soup should be extremely hot and spicy. Thus, it’s not unusual for me to request that my Tom Yam Soup should be extra spicy when I am dining in a Thai Restaurant. The spicier my Tom Yam Soup is, the more kick I get out of it. Furthermore, a great Tom Yam Soup should be very appetising, as a result of this tinge of sourness in the soup. It’ll really make my day if I do find such nice Tom Yam Soup that has these two criteria.

Parkway Thai Restaurant is one place where I can find such lovely Tom Yam Soup in Singapore. I remember going to this restaurant when I was around six years old, and I am still patronising the place now, simply because of the great Thai food it serves. However, the best dishes here are best savoured ala carte. I tried the buffet before, but it just doesn’t taste as great as compared to calling individual dishes. It has been eons since I last patronised this restaurant (haha, I’ve been busy trying out new places), and I was pleasantly surprised to see the new menu it has. I wasn’t very hungry that day when I was there, so I hope to try the new dishes there soon!

I think this is the papaya salad…I can’t remember the exact name of this dish.

Tapioca with Coconut

Another reason why I always patronise this restaurant is because of the great desserts it has over there. My personal favourite is the Tapioca with Coconut dessert. I have tried this dessert at some other Thai restaurants before, but none seem to taste as nice as the one I always has at Parkway Thai Restaurant. The tapioca is steamed until it is just right, thus it is very soft and chewy, as compared to the harder version sold in many other places. The coconut sauce that accompanies it is just right and not too sweet, thus it doesn’t has this “sickeningly sweet” feel to it. However, when I went to try this dessert a few weekends ago, it didn’t taste as good as I used to remember, though it still tasted fantastic. Thus I suppose one flaw about this place is that the standard of the food is not the best in terms of consistency, though on the average, it usually tastes great.
